Job Title:
Composer & New Music Coordinator (Open Rank). Exceptional composer, teacher, and new music champion to fill the position of Composer and New Music Coordinator. This full time and career-contract track position (with rank dependent upon qualifications) will begin August 16, 2012. The position requires a composer with a distinguished profile who is able to work collaboratively with the Dean, Division Chairs, and Ensemble Directors to increase the regional and national profile of the composition program (currently including BM and MM degrees in Composition) and further strengthen the profile of the Conservatory as a vibrant center for the promotion and reception of new concert music. The selected candidate will teach applied composition to approximately a dozen composition majors, help develop and lead an innovative composition curriculum (including possible new courses), oversee adjunct composition faculty, and retain a high professional profile through ongoing work creation. The selected candidate will also be charged to build upon current Conservatory initiatives and programming and coordinate, develop, and promote a blend of activities that not only develops audiences but also brings new music and composition closer to the center of the Conservatory’s musical life. Active contribution to a creative and collaborative Conservatory and University community and service on school-wide committees and participation in division meetings, auditions, and recruitment activities is expected.
Requirements: The successful candidate will possess a DMA or PhD, have a national reputation as a composer of works for various types of ensembles, and have substantial experience in the promotion of new music. Must be able to pass pre-employment post offer background check.
